The process of purchasing a puppy from Iowa Pointing Labs

The Labrador retriever breeder that guarantees what he produces with an unconditional guarantee for the first 26 months. Customers should demand this from a world-class breeder of pointing Labrador retrievers.

What is the process of picking a puppy? The order of purchasing a pup is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Your name will be put on a list when we receive your $250 deposit. Your name is placed in the type of puppy you want (color and gender).

Pictures of the puppies
Puppies before the 4th week are very small. We will provide pictures of the puppies AFTER the 4th week and AFTER the 6th week. No more or less. We specialize in puppies not photos. The great Ben O'Williams said, "spend your time choosing the litter and grab a pup".

When can we see the pups? After they have had their vaccinations and are 7 weeks old. This is basically the time you pick up the pup. We will not make any exceptions to see them earlier, as we would have to do this for all customers. Several issues have came up in the past with customers choosing and wanting a certain pup before the pick date. All pick up days will be on Saturday but we do make exceptions after that date set except on Sundays. No exceptions on Sundays. We praise the Lord on Sunday as a family and value it with high regard. Please no phone calls on Sundays.

Call Monday through Saturday during the day. We're available during the day as we homeschool our children. We have seven children socializing this puppies around the clock. We have Jay as our full-time trainer passing GMPR titles, with 5 part-time trainers under him. Bret who is our full-time vet assistant. Bret has over 10 years of full time experience working for our veternerian until we hired him full time. Jeff is our full time kennel manager. Staci is our full time adminastration manager handling the flights and paperwork. Jared is our full time guide from September to March.

We strongly recommend the head start program, for your pup. Please ask about it.

Deposits are $250 nonrefundable. As soon as we receive the deposit you're put on a certain litter list. If we don't produce your pup you're put on a different litter of your choice.. If you change your mind and decide not to get a pup the deposit is nonrefundable. If we don’t produce the pup you requested you can apply it to a different litter or we will refund it.

Pricing of the pups

The price will vary depending on who the sire and dam is. There will be Iowa sales tax applied to the purchase price of the pup if you pick the pup up in the state of Iowa only. I don't like this but it is the Iowa state law and I have to obey the state laws. No exceptions. For example the purchase price of a pup $1000 x 7%=$1070 will be the final price. In Iowa as a breeder of dogs the buyer has to pay a sales tax if the pup is picked up in Iowa.

What is the cost of shipping puppies? The cost for shipping the puppy will be the customer’s responsibility at $600 or $450 for the total cost. No hidden fees as this will cover the Vet health certificate bill, transportation to airport, airline ticket, kennel/crate and matt, and food. The $600 is for the head start and the $450 is for the 49 day old pups. We will arrange the flight for the puppy. We only use Delta or United as they provide the best service out of Des Moines, IA. We have had a 100% success.

Microchip and AKC registration. All puppies will be microchiped with a lifetime activation. All puppies come with a full Akc registration done by us with Iowa Pointing Labs plus the call name of your new pup. This charge is $150 and all puppies come with this additional charge as we want all our puppies microchipped and AKC registered. You also will have access to our full time employee Bret who is a veternerian assistant for the 10 years.

Iowa Pointing Labs guarantee.  Our 26-month guarantee demonstrates the confidence we have in these pups. If you’re unhappy for any reason you will be able to apply the purchase price of the pup, not training to another pup as soon as we receive the live pup/dog back at our kennel. The puppy registered name starts with our kennel name Iowa Pointing Labs. The cost of shipping back the pup to Iowa Pointing Labs and shipping handling the new pup to you is the customer’s responsibility. If the pup has been breed, sold to another person or mistreated the guarantee is void. If the pup/dog died or is ill for any reason other then genetically passed on or from my kennel the guarantee is void.

If you’re not pleased with the pup, we will replace it. Just return the pup your not satisfied with. This is above and beyond the standard 26-month hip and eye gaurantee.

All Iowa Pointing Lab puppies follow this Vaccination Schedule as it has produced the best results for us. It is the most expensive at first but the most effective. Most vets are not aware of this schedule. Most breeders just give a 5-way vaccination at 6 or 7 weeks and tell you to follow your vets advice.

Vaccination Schedule

I strongly recommend this many vaccinations up to the 14 weeks of age then every year. We believe the way we vaccinate is currently the best for your puppy. This is my opinion and what we have experienced. We love dogs and want the best for them. To ensure their health both before and after departure we use and recommend NuVet Plus.

If you choose not to put your pup in the head start program which we believe is the best option for your new pup. The second best option in our opinion is your family should play with the new puppy as much as possible and show it as many new situations as possible. Keep it in the home for the first 3 months if possible. Take walks through the woods, tall grasses and down to ponds are very beneficial for “expanding their horizons”. Get them used to water at a very early age. Nothing beats a nice pointing dog that will hit the water hard to get the pheasant or duck that you shot over a pond or river!

Clicker train, your Iowa Pointing Labrador is a requirement. We do hope you clicker train your new Labrador puppy of a lifetime. These are very specially bred puppies that deserve the best training available. We will go over this training with you. We also recommend Karen Pryor's DVD or go to Youtube and find many free resources on clicker training.

What happens after you receive your pup?

Dog food recommendation and requirements. We have tried the good bad and ugly in dog food. We strongly recommend Life Abundance as it is a 5-Star puppy food. It is called Large breed puppy food.

We want to stress that Iowa Pointing Labs takes great pride in customer service before you get the pup and after. We will be available to answer any questions and help guide you through the process of training, etc... We will explain clicker training to you before you get the pup or when you pick the pup up. We also recommend some great resources to increase your knowledge while training your new pup. We have repeat customers that have purchased over 12 of our puppies. Customer relations hopefully is for a lifetime. We love people as much as the dogs.
